Traveling, especially driving brings forth various levels of emotional security. At first
the road appears to be an endless challenge to be met with a tank of fuel and a well coordinated accelerator pedal. The road soon becomes a siren song of physical and emotional
fatigue gemdtly seducing your mind from the challege to lethargy and eventual fatigue. The
body fights back with vengeance which takes the form of wiggling, scratching, yawning and
various grotesque movements that help to resist seduction of fatigue. Combative energy
requires nourishment and again there are predictable sequences of consumption of food that
mark the battle. Vegetables start the parade with carrots and celery, then veges no longer
seem to have any potency for one goes to crackers, bread or string cheese. As these give
way to the never ending onslaught of fatigue more desperate measures are employed; juice
drinks, gum and then desperation gives way to straight sugar: candy bars or even better the
almost heavenly experience of stopping, getting out, getting two scoops of ice cream and
then playfulling holding it in your mouth while its rich, creamy taste melts and seems to be
absorbed by every cell in the body bringing yet more relief from fatigue.

Hokey Pokey? That sounds delicious. This was an awesome post. I think it describes a typical day for me, not even when I'm on a road trip, just when from when I wake up until about 3:30 when I start eating straight candy bars to keep myself energized. I LOVE SUGAR. LOVE YOU TOO.
ReplyDeleteyou would go nuts over hokey pokey. it is vanilla based with some sort of butterscotch (just a hint) with a definite amount
Deleteof caramel. No cream is spared in making this dream. i will
airfreight some to you on dry ice, just kidding.
Don't kid about stuff like that. The right amount of fats and sugars, is no joking matter.
ReplyDeletetotally hokey pokey all the way :)
