Just for reference

We slept in a little piece of paradise last night. A grassy slope at a campground with over an acre to ourselves. The town was small, maybe 75 people and we ate a late dinner at the train station, probably the most expensive meal we have had. Just for your reference, gas is $8. plus per gallon, a gallon of milk is $13 and everything else lays out in about the same proportion, as always I wonder how people live in their own economy. We fill the tank on the car, a Subaru every second or third day and it costs between $100 and $120 dollars, this is not a dodge truck this is a Subaru station wagon. I digress.
I got up in the early morning hours to see if I could find the lady who was calling me and there was a really weird bird sneaking around the tent. Thought at first it was a kiwi but it is a kiwi knock off, looks similar but its not, short beak instead of the official long beak.
Location, by the way was Moana which is east and a little north of Greymouth by Brunher Lake for you geography fans.
We took the day off from fast cars on wild curves and hiked. The first hike was to a waterfall
Curew water fall, it was, in fact a sight to behold, amazing at the very least. We then did a hike
on a lake short that was a little over 5 miles round trip, it was magnificent experience hiking through what is really jungle and seeing nothing but dark trunks, green foliage. can you ever
grow tired of Green, Sam?
The end of the day finds us in Greymouth. Tomorrow is Sunday and there is apparently a church here. After church we will head down the coast to Franz Josef and Fox glaciers for a
look at the fastest moving glacier in the world.  More tomorrow.

  1. Maybe people don't drive around as much as you are. That is just so expensive. Crazy. I don't think I would ever grow tired of looking out and seeing green trees, grass, hills and plants. I love it.
