Amazing for this place

Once in a while you have a culinary experience that is worth writing home to mom about. After all, my mom is probably one of the better mom "cooks"
on the planet and I think I can safely make that claim. She has fed hundreds if not thousands of people and no one has ever gone away without a big smile on their face and a tummy filled with the best food you can imagine.
We are close to 47 degrees south latitude, the next thing south from here
is a big frozen piece of the earth called Antarctica. The word around town is there is absolutely no reason to miss the blue cod. Now that is interesting,
I have never heard of blue cod until just a few days ago.
We spent the day hiking on an island that is about a ten minute ride from the island we are on. On the out going boat ride the shuttle boat pulled over to some fisherman and they talked. Coincidentally they were fishing for blue
cod. Around six pm we were waiting for our boat and the same fishermen we had seen earlier in the day pulled up onshore with a nice catch of blue
cod. I asked him how it tasted and he said it was the best.
After our boat arrived back to the main island we hiked back over to town
and thought we ought to try some blue cod. unfortunately rumor had it that it was only served at the pub, fortunately the rumor was incorrect and we ended up at a nice hotel asking for service for two. The first question out
of the hostess's mouth was, "do you have a booking?" This has become a joke on the trip because we tried to go to a movie and found out that you had to have a booking to go to the movie. That would kill the movie business in the US.
The hostess agreed to work us in even though there was no sacrosanct
booking. We ordered the blue cod and smoked salmon which was reported to be smoked (cooked) while you wait. Two meals appeared and we started the process of consuming them. Got to tell you, there is nothing like blue
cod or smoked salmon. Now you have to realize that you have to go close to 9000 miles and conclude the last part of your trip with a wild ferry ride, but had I known the blue cod was here, it would have been worth the trip.
It had a melt in your mouth texture with no fish taste. The salmon was hot
clear through and had a delicate but distinctive smoked taste.
